I Always Knew I Wanted To Be A Mom
Since I was a little girl, whenever someone would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d always answer, “a mom”. I wanted to have a house full of kids. Literally.
When I hit my mid 20’s, and hadn’t met anyone to share my life with, I started to consider having kids on my own. I felt like I still had time, so I sat on the dream, and let some more time pass.
At 30, I was still single (up until this point, I was desperately trying to make myself straight. So, of course, I didn’t find anyone I was interested in, but that’s a story for another day ?…). And, I was starting to feel the pressure of time.
I came to realize that I would be ok living my whole life without ever getting married, but I wouldn’t be ok living my whole life without ever being a mom (whether by birth, adoption, foster care…). I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy journey, but I also knew it was one of those dreams, I had to see all the way through.
After a year of failed IUI, and 2 rounds of IVF, I got pregnant with my son, and delivered him one month shy of my 32nd birthday.
Parenthood isn’t easy. Period. BUT, if you want to be a mom/dad- like really, wholeheartedly, wouldn’t be ok not being a mom/dad- then, DO IT!
Whatever your “I wouldn’t be happy dying without achieving/doing/seeing this one thing” is, DO IT!
Let this be your sign!
